There is no age limit for practicing the sport, and the ladies participating in the Viva Vôlei project are an example of this. Feral at their job, they prove to be a true model to be followed by those who want to grow old healthily and having fun.

The action, which began five years ago, brings together women to play volleyball on Camburi Beach and on the court at Ginásio Jones dos Santos Neves (DED). Initially, it favored the participation of women over 60 years old, however, today there are teams competing from 45 years old to 80 years old. In total, there are 38 active athletes.

Over the years, the competition team, which is an indoor team, has participated in three national championships and one South American championship, where it came in fourth place.

The person who created Viva Vôlei was Katia Siquara Nascimento, 60 years old. She, who is the team’s coach, was a volleyball athlete for the Espírito Santo national team and continues to play in the masters in Saquarema and Rota Sudeste.

“I had the idea of starting the project because I retired and I saw this modality as a way of volunteering and doing good no matter who,” he commented.

Katia stated that all the participants love playing. Maria das Graças de Moraes, 72, Ormandina Tristão, 77, Dilza Fiorotti dos Santos, 66, Beth Mallet, 65, and Ângela da Silva, 60, are some of the ladies who are part of the group.

“I decided to participate because I wanted to do a physical activity depending on my age and because I really like this type of team sport. My mother was already a volleyball player,” said Beth.

For her, who has been in action for around five years, there are only benefits: before, she had pain in her knee joints and was quite overweight, and that changed with the sport. “The fees for my last exams are all controlled. I believe this has something to do with volleyball.”

Ormandina has been playing volleyball for two decades and has been with the project for three years. For her, one of the biggest benefits is friendship.

“It’s a very lively, happy, happy group. It’s total happiness, we are very happy. We don’t have depression, we don’t feel alone, there is no loneliness. And it’s a very good friendship.”
