Generally, Friday ends up being the day where most artists release their new albums. But Brazil’s best launch of the week came this Saturday (27). In the Shanghai stage of the Diamond Athletics League, Izabela Silva won the Olympic discus throw index in the event, with the right to a personal best. The junior world champion will go to her second Olympics, after being a finalist in Tokyo-2020.

Izabela Silva achieved the best record of her life in her first valid attempt in Shanghai. The Brazilian threw the discus 64.66m to surpass the distance necessary to guarantee automatic classification for the Paris Olympic Games by 16 centimeters. Izabela came fourth in the race, which was won by the American Valerie Allman, with 69.86m. Second place was Feng Bin, from China, with 67.11m, while Cuba’s Yaimé Perez was third, with 65.59m.
With Izabela Silva’s good result, the Brazilian delegation reaches 13 classified in athletics. This is the third place in the women’s category, with Iza joining Erica Sena and Viviane Lyra who are guaranteed to compete in the race walk. Team Brasil’s delegation in the sport should still increase with new indexes, as well as those classified by the world ranking. This will be Izabela Silva’s second participation in the Olympic Games, after Tokyo 2020, where she was a finalist in the discus throw.
Eliane does poorly in the jump
Next, the long jump competition took place, again with Brazil in action in the Diamond League. Eliane Martins scored 5.82m on her first attempt and missed the next two, finishing only in tenth place. The first was Marthe Koala, from Burkina Faso, with 6.68m. Quanesha Burks, from the United States, with 6.59m, and Serbia’s Milica Gardasevic, with 6.52m, completed the top-3.
