Porto Alegre (RS) – Guilherme Clezar from Rio Grande do Sul officially ends his professional career at the Brasil Tennis Open in Porto Alegre, a challenger 50 tournament, which distributes prizes of US$41,000 and 50 ATP points to the champion. Raised at Associação Leopoldina Juvenil, a place where he still goes and plays ball at least three times a week, Clezar chose the club as the stage for his official farewell. He received an invitation to the main draw and will play the last tournament of his career at home.

Holder of five ITF titles and two Challengers, including the one from Campinas in 2013, Clezar is 31 years old and has a career-best ranking of 153rd. He swapped tennis for the financial market and enjoyed his new career. Despite this, he still competes in some money tournaments on the weekends. His last professional circuit commitment was an ITF M25 in Lajeado, also in Rio Grande do Sul, in November 2022.

“I always liked finance, I managed my own money and there came a time when I started taking courses, finished college and started dedicating myself to it along with tennis. There comes a time when we don’t know what we’re going to do, but I chose to do it and I’m really enjoying it”, explained Clezar.

Regarding playing the last ATP tournament of his career in Porto Alegre, he was adamant: “I didn’t play any farewell match and I didn’t announce my retirement. That’s why I accepted the club’s invitation. I’m not going to play ATP again. Only a few money tournaments around here.”

The event starts on the 28th, Sunday, with the qualification that guarantees six more places in the main draw. From 10 am. Free entry, with ticket collection on the Ticket App. Tickets for the public are free and will be available for collection via https://appticket.com.br/atppoa2024

Clezar is the fifth Brazilian confirmed in the bracket, alongside João Lucas Reis, Pedro Sakamoto, Mateus Alves and youth Guto Miguel, champion of the Roland Garros Series earlier this month. The 1st edition of the Brasil Tennis Open is presented by Santander, through the Federal Sports Incentive Law of the Ministry of Sports, and is co-sponsored by Zurich Santander Seguros e Previdência Brasil, EMS Farmacêutica, Azul Linhas Aéreas – Transportadora Oficial, Alupar , Taesa, Aberje, INNI Sports – Official Ball and Clothing, Stella Artois Pure Gold. AppTicket support. It is organized by the Sports Institute.
