Abel Ferreira reacts to Luis Guilherme’s goal in Palmeiras’ comeback over Del Valle

Abel Ferreira knew. When Luis Guilherme positioned himself for the shot, in the 49th minute of the second half, the coach said he saw the ball in the net. On the plane back to São Paulo, after the victory over Independiente del Valle, in Quito, the commander reacted to the 3-2 comeback.

– You know that when the ball left his foot I already saw the ball inside. So there I said kick it? – said the coach with a laugh, while confirming to him the image recorded seconds before the ball hit the net.

– I’m not much of a party person, but this one is impossible – says Abel.

Please note that it was not the first time that Luis Guilherme used a shot from outside the area, even though it was his first goal as a professional. In the youth categories, when he competed in the Copa do Brasil under-17, he secured the title of the 2022 edition of the tournament with a similar move – also shown to Abel.

Palmeiras wins comeback with a gem of a goal in stoppage time

Luis Guilherme has been in the professional squad permanently since last season, but made 27 appearances in 2023 without managing to find the net, acting mainly as a striker on the wing. The home silver, however, thinks differently: he wants to compete for a position with Veiga as a midfielder, a position in which he graduated, and he made this clear to Abel Ferreira.

– He already told me: “I like playing in Veiga’s position” – revealed the coach, laughing, in the last press conference.

In 2024, the attacking midfielder has 11 matches, now one goal scored, and is starting to appear among the options for Verdão’s main lineup.
