PortosRio and the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) announce the inauguration of the expansion and modernization of a 600-meter section of Cais da Gamboa, in the Port of Rio de Janeiro, this Monday (6). The ceremony will be attended by the minister Silvio Costa Filho, and will be held on Youtube Space Rio, at 2:30 pm. The Port Authority’s investments are in the order of approximately R$150 million. The section of Cais da Gamboa that received the intervention is the oldest in the Port of Rio de Janeiro, opened in 1910. Its structure consisted of a wall with a base of metal sheets and made up of mortared masonry stones, built with the techniques available in the era. The modernization of the pier is essential to keep up with current demands, because the old structure would not support dredging on site, but with the completion of these works, it will be possible to increase the depth of the berths from 8.5 meters to 13, 5 meters. This will enable the operation of larger ships, such as Panamax types, increasing the port’s attractiveness and improving its operational efficiency.

Furthermore, the works will contribute to better performance in the use of the back area, internal transport and operational safety, driving greaterPort of Rio de Janeiro load flow. The Gamboa Pier has the potential to handle various types of general cargo and bulk cargo, such as wheat, pig iron, zinc concentrate and cargo to support offshore activities, among others. For the president of PortosRio, Francisco Martins, This milestone represents PortosRio’s historic commitment to PORT 2development of the Port of Rio de Janeiro: “More than two decades ago, such significant investments were not seen in our port infrastructure, from dredging to the expansion and modernization of the pier. We are committed to preparing our port for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, ensuring its competitiveness and relevance on the national and international scene. We will continue to invest in infrastructure, driving the socio-economic development of the region with vision, commitment and hard work.”

On that occasion, PortosRio and MPor will announce strategic partnerships to boost modernization andPORT 1 operational efficiency. A Term of Intent will be signed to formalize technical cooperation with the Iguaçu Technological Park (PTI), aiming to implement technological solutions to reinforce security and modernize port operations, especially in combating illicit activities, in infrastructure projects and in decarbonization. Furthermore, another Term of Intent will be signed to formalize technical cooperation with Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) for the development of market studies and analyses, in order to guide the growth of the port complex and support future expansion and zoning projects. of the areas to be explored.
