Handball at the City Hall Olympic Center guarantees class… ABC do ABC

The men’s handball team, in the cadet category (15 and 16 years old), from the Olympic Training and Research Center (COTP), a public facility of the City of São Paulo focused on high-performance sport, guaranteed its participation in the Brazilian Championship of the sport after arriving to runner-up in the Southeast Cup. The position also guaranteed the team a call-up to the Brazilian Championship, which will be held from August 5th to 10th in Recife (PE).

Competitions are the focus of athletes, who participate in a complete training routine at COTP. Participating in these moments is a dream come true for athletes in this age group, who are often having their first opportunity to travel.

The Brazilian Championship is one of the handball team’s main objectives. “I’m very anxious because it’s my first Brazilian, but I’m confident, I see that the team is becoming more united every day”, comments midfielder Eduardo Omero, who was runner-up in the Southeast Cup.

In the year of the Olympics, and within an Olympic Center, it is impossible not to think about the possibility of one day representing the country in a major competition. Central defender Lucas Kenji describes the possibility of representing Brazil in the future as a dream, and also sees the Municipal Sports Department’s equipment as the perfect space to achieve his goals. “The Olympic Center is our home and we will be with our fans. We are excited,” said the center.
