Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges was eliminated this Wednesday in his debut at the Masters 1,000 in Madrid, after losing to Spaniard Jaume Munar, in two sets, in the first round of the clay tournament.

Nuno Borges, ranked 56th in the world rankings, was defeated by a tennis player positioned slightly lower in the ATP hierarchy, in which he occupies 73rd place, by 7-5 and 6-4, after one hour and 58 minutes confrontation.

The Portuguese number one and the only Portuguese tennis player among the 100 best in the world suffered a break of service in the opening game, but managed to draw 4-4, before suffering another – and decisive – break, which allowed Munar to make it 6-5 and , later, close the initial set.

The scenario was repeated in the second half, with Munar quickly imposing himself on Borges’s service (2-1), and, although the Portuguese reacted immediately (2-2), he gave in again later (4- 3) and allowed the opponent to win the match on the third match point he had.

Nuno Borges, 27 years old, met the same fate as last year in the Spanish competition, in which he was eliminated in the first round by the American Marcos Giron, and continues with a single round pass in Masters 1,000, in Rome, in 2023.
