In his testimony that lasted more than four hours in CPI for Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting in the Senate, John Textor offered to finance a high definition (4K) camera system to implement the VAR automatic in Brazilian stadiums.
The owner of SAF do Botafogo pointed out VAR errors in the Brasileirão and spoke about a black box in arbitration brasilira, asking for more transparency from the CBF during stopovers.
– I will fund better cameras in all the stadiums… For US$1,100, you can have 11 cameras there around the stadium to film everything, and they can produce a volumetric image that can be able to identify every millimeter detail that each player can produce. And you can have automatic VAR, you can have automatic detection of match manipulation, for less than US$1,000 or US$3,000 – said Textor at the CPI.
After the testimony, John Textor presented more documents and materials to the senators in a secret session. Parliamentarians stated that this is strong and sufficient evidence to begin an investigation. Furthermore, they drew attention to a “very serious” problem with VAR.
– Clubs may be victims of VAR editing, which is very serious. What appears on the referee’s screen on the field are fragments of the image captured by the VAR. What the viewer watches at home on TV is the same fragment that is being shown to the referee who does not tell the entire story of the move. This was the most serious thing we noticed here – said senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ).
