Madrid (Spain) – With expectations increasingly high, Italian Jannik Sinner is eager to show even more what he is capable of producing. Number 1 seed at the Masters 1000 in Madrid, he knows the pressure he will face to maintain his results, but prefers to focus more on growth as a tennis player rather than just immediate results.

“I don’t want to put pressure on myself. I know I’m going through a very positive moment, winning a lot of matches and I’m just trying to continue like this. In my opinion, I know what I can do and what I have to improve on if I want to earn more. I’m looking for new opportunities and I feel that, in each tournament I compete in, there is a good opportunity to try to show that my level has risen”, said Sinner

“I want to show that I have improved and that is definitely something I would like to do here. This is a new opportunity, a new tournament and we will see how it goes”, said the 22-year-old Italian, who will begin his campaign in Madrid against the winner of the duel between a tennis player coming from the quali and his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego, against whom he leads the retrospective in the ATP by 4-0.

Sinner hopes to be able to use his growing experience to adapt to the high altitude conditions of the Spanish capital. “I’m trying to understand my game on clay a little better. Here it is a little different from all the other tournaments because we play at altitude. The ball bounces more and becomes much faster”, commented the current vice-leader of the ranking.

“I used to struggle a lot in previous years to find my level here. So it will be interesting to see how I play this year. I think this is the most important thing. I feel like I still need to find my game here. I have three more days of training before the opening match and I hope that will be enough”, added Sinner.
