Sporting lost 32-29 to Rhein-Neckar Lowen, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the European Handball League.

In Germany, the Lions started the match poorly and, consequently, reached half-time trailing by five goals. Ricardo Costa’s men had to recover in the second half, something that ended up happening, as the difference in the result was three goals.

Highlight was the performance of Francisco Costa, who scored nine of them and was the Lions’ top scorer in the match. This result allows the lions to discuss the tie in the second leg, which will take place on April 30th, at Pavilhão João Rocha.

If confirmed, it will be Sporting’s first ever appearance in the “final-four” of the European League, which has only been won once by a Portuguese team, in this case, Benfica in 2021/22.
