Mosquera (Colombia) – This Tuesday’s birthday girl, Carol Meligeni celebrated her 28th birthday with a victory. The number 3 in Brazil and 349th in the world debuted at the ITF W35 in Mosquera, on clay courts in Colombia, beating the 29-year-old British Tiffany William 6/1 and 6/0 in 1 hour of play.
After having defended Brazil in the Billie Jean King Cup, Carol Meligeni is the third seed of the tournament in Colombia. “It was a great debut. I felt really good and I liked what I did on the court,” she commented after the match. Campinas awaits the winner of the match between local guest Diana Lizarazo and Dutch qualifier Demi Tran.
Two Brazilians were eliminated in the debut. Georgia Gulin, from Paraná, was beaten by Argentine Julieta Estable, 5th seed in the tournament and 387th in the rankings, by 6/3 and 6/1. Julia Konishi from São Paulo lost 6/1 and 6/2 to Colombian Yuliana Lizarazo.

The doubles bracket will have four Brazilians. Rebeca Pereira and Colombian Yuliana Lizarazo are the main favorites and will face Argentine Jazmin Ortenzi and Mexican Maria Jose Portillo. Julia Konishi and Dutch Demi Tran face American Meisha Kendall-Woseley and British Tiffany William. Letícia Vidal and Georgia Gulin will debut against Argentine Julieta Estable and Mexican Jessica Hinojosa Gomez.
