Pep Guardiola’s public scolding of Grealish at the final whistle of the duel against Arsenal, last Sunday, became a prominent topic in England, with criticism of the coach’s stance. And, in the first press conference after the episode, the Spanish coach decided to respond with irony when asked why he gave guidance to the athlete while still on the field.

– I do this for the cameras, for my ego. I’m the famous one on the team and I need the cameras on me to sleep with incredible satisfaction. I always try to criticize the players there and let them know how bad they are. Especially when Erling scores three goals, the cameras have to be on me – mocked Pep.

Interestingly, in an interview with the club’s TV this week, Grealish commented on how he deals with criticism – but from rival fans. The player said that his mother asks why opposing fans usually boo him in matches against City.

– I always ask myself, “Why do they boo me?”, and my mom always asks me about it too. At every away game I go to now, I get booed and I’m not sure why, I just have to try to look at it as something positive or a compliment,” she said.

Guardiola also provided news about Manchester City’s absences ahead of their clash with Aston Villa on Wednesday. The coach pointed out that goalkeeper Ederson and full-back Walker, despite having returned to training, should not be available for the clash.

– I don’t think so. John (Stones) maybe, but the other two, no chance. He has to feel fully fit, but the injury was less than we expected. Let’s see, maybe in the next games he will be ready – commented Pep.
