O Santos reached an agreement with Krasnodar (Russia) to pay off the debt and end Transferban this Tuesday (02). The Fish had received a new punishment from FIFA and was prevented from registering new players due to a debt owed to the Russian team for the signing of Peruvian midfielder Christian Cueva, in 2019, by the former management of José Carlos Peres.

There are 4.5 million dollars that will be paid in installments by Alvinegro in four installments until June 25th. With the formalization of the agreement, Transferban will be revoked. The window opens on July 10th. Santos intends to sign right-back Rodrigo Ferreira, signed from Mirassol.

“Santos Futebol Clube and Krasnodar, from Russia, reached an agreement today (2) to settle the debt relating to the signing of striker Cueva. The negotiation was concluded during a virtual meeting this Tuesday morning, which was attended by the clubs’ directors. According to the agreement defined today, Santos will pay off the debt of US$ 4.5 million in four installments until June 25th of this year, definitively resolving an old problem that even provoked a new Transfer ban, an administrative punishment currently applied by FIFA. With the formalization of the agreement, the measure imposed by FIFA will be revoked”, Santos published in a note.

Recently, the Peixe was with another Transferban for the Bustos case in which a debt of R$4 million was paid with the Argentine coach.

UNDERSTAND THE CUEVA CASE

In 2019, Cueva was sold by Krasnodar for 7 million dollars and Santos had only paid half the amount. At the request of coach Jorge Sampaoli, the midfielder wore the Santos number eight shirt, but only played in 16 and lackluster matches. Without space in the team, the player terminated his contract with the club forcibly and unilaterally and transferred to Pachuca (Mexico).

The Mexican team was condemned by FIFA and the decision even went to the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) for the forced transfer of the midfielder. In March last year, Santos published an agreement with Pachuca to receive US$4.6 million in compensation for the negotiation at the beginning of 2021.

After the Mexican team, he also played for Yeni Malatyaspor (Turkey), Al-Fateh (Saudi Arabia) and Allianza Lima (Peru). In June 2021, the management of former president Andres Rueda had made an agreement with the Russian team official. The commitment provided for payment in installments until December 2023, but it did not deliver as promised.
