Miami (USA) – One of Jannik Sinner’s coaches, Australian Darren Cahill spoke to the press after the Italian won the Miami Masters 1000 title last Sunday. In the interview, he showed enormous confidence in his pupil and warned that the current number 2 in the world still has a lot to improve in the future.

“Right now he is playing too much and there is no way to ask for more, his level today (Sunday) was fantastic, but he can improve. As time goes on, you get a little older, stronger, faster and a little smarter, all of those things will start to come into his game,” Sinner’s coach said.

“We have been working to improve the serve, the transition game, the backhand slice to use as an approach stroke, improving the direction on the forehand, the return of the serve. Everyone has things to improve. Novak (Djokovic) at 36 is still looking to improve his game and we know he will make adjustments. We know that (Daniil) Medvedev will make adjustments,” Cahill added.

For the Italian’s coach, continuing to make changes and seek improvements is something normal for players on the circuit and that is why he is betting on his pupil’s evolution for the future. Sinner has 22 wins and just one loss this season, which came in the semifinals of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.

On this issue of constant evolution, Cahill remembers his work with the American Andre Agassi. “The moment I stepped on the court with Andre, it was all business and he wanted to become a better tennis player at 32, better than he was at 22,” said the coach.

“So this generation is privileged to have seen previous generations striving for improvement, no matter how old you are. That’s what Jannik will do. So yes, he can definitely improve. But we have to give credit where credit is due. He’s playing incredible tennis at the moment,” concluded the Australian.
