Twelve championships give Paris places in ten sports in April

The first quarter of 2024 is over and April is already underway, with 115 days counting until the Paris Olympic Games. Thus, the month will be full of championships that will result in the definition of many Olympic places in ten sports. These will be the last chances for athletes and teams to end their cycles in the City of Light or to begin work for Los Angeles-2028.

During the month of April, 12 championships will serve as qualifiers for the upcoming Olympics. Thus, some of the championships are continental pre-Olympics, others are tournaments or world cups. But there are two certainties in these competitions: there will be Brazilians involved and that the Olympics Every Day will continue covering and announcing when Brazil has more vacancies.

On the other hand, it is clear that there are other competitions in which vacancies may arise for Brazilians who are not on this list of championships. Therefore, daily coverage continues to inform results and ranking updates. Recently, the OTD brought Rayan Castro’s place in trampoline gymnastics, mainly due to the criteria of the world ranking in World Cup stages.

Check the list of championships:

• Weightlifting World Cup (March 31 – 11): started in Phuket, Thailand. It is the last championship in the sport that offers places and Brazil has Tatiane Justino (+ 87kg), Laura Amaro (- 81kg) and Amanda Schott (-76kg);
• Americas Rifle and Pistol Championship (2 – 7): Brazil will have 15 representatives at the championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Felipe Wu, Olympic medalist, will be in two events: individual 10m air pistol and mixed teams.
• Pan-American Track Cycling (3 – 7): the championship takes place at the Dignity Health Sports Park velodrome, in Carson, California;
• Pre-Olympic Pan American Fencing (6 and 7): Mariana Pistoia, Karina Trois, Alexandre Camargo and Henrique Garriós will be in action in San Jose, Costa Rica;
• Pan American Archery (7 – 14): competitions will be for individual classification in the recurve and compound. Next, there will be team competitions, in the city of Medellín, Colombia.
• Taekwondo Pan-American Pre-Olympics (9 and 10): in the note released in mid-March at OTD, there is all the information about the Brazilians who will fight in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic;
• World Rifle and Pistol Classification (11 – 20): This will be the last opportunity for shooters to seek their places in their respective weapons. The competition takes place in Rio de Janeiro;
• BMX Racing Pan American (13 and 14): championship at the Bogotá track, in Colombia;
• Olympic Week – Last Chance Regattas (21 to 28): the competition will take place in French waters in the city of Hyères and will feature competition in all classes;
• Shotgun World Classification (22 to 30): will take place in Doha, Qatar;
• World Race Walking Championship (21): will take place in Antalya, Turkey;
• Pre-Olympic Pan-American Sprint Canoeing (23 to 25): will take place in Sarasota, in the United States.
