– It means a lot to me, but the most important thing is my performance, especially in the semi-finals and final. Being number two in the world is incredible, I never thought I would get to this point. I come from a very normal family, my parents still work. Sport is one thing and life is different. I’m very happy to be in this position, I enjoy every moment. Winning a tournament is always special – said the tennis player, who became the first Italian to become number 2 in the world in history.

➡️ Jannik Sinner’s unprecedented achievement: he is champion in Miami and passes Alcaraz

He commented on Daniil Medvedev’s words that he and Carlos Alcaraz would be the biggest champions of the year.

– It means a lot, but it’s something you have to prove. I started the season very well. I never thought I’d start like this, but it means I have to stay in the moment. The past, the past is. Each tournament is a new opportunity. That’s how I see it. I have a great team with me that encourages me to be better. We know what we have to improve. Now comes the season on clay, where I tend to suffer – declared the tennis player.

The Miami Open winner talked about the short space to prepare, but considered his skills for the tournament.

– Firstly, there is not much time to adapt, Monaco’s first training session is on Thursday. Not even a week to adapt to clay. There are always strange results in Monaco, we will see what happens this year. The main objective is Roland Garros. Before that we have Rome, a very special tournament for me. It’s always incredible to play in front of the home fans. I have the feeling that I have learned a lot of things this past year and that I can do better. Physically I arrived in a different way – said Sinner.

He also pointed to his physical change as fundamental to the positive results. Now, Sinner had 21 wins in 22 matches:;

– Winning my first Masters 1000 was very important for me. I’ve had good results before, but I’ve never won the title. For me, mentally it was very important. Then you realize it’s something very special, but it’s just a moment. The next day you play again. There’s not much time to celebrate. It’s something I learned. That’s how I am, maybe there are other tennis players who like to celebrate more days – concluded the tennis player.
