The duel against Alexis Lebrun started tensely, with Hugo making some mistakes, which left the Frenchman with a five-point lead in the first game. The Brazilian even closed the gap, but lost the first partial by 11/8. The game heated up in the second set, with a close duel until 6/6. However, in the sequence, all that was left was Hugo, who won five points in a row to tie the match.

Fueled by the victory in the previous game, Hugo Calderano dominated the third game. The Brazilian made good use of his serve to put pressure on Lebrun and score 11/6 on his opponent again.

In the quarterfinals, Hugo Calderano must have a difficult opponent ahead of him. He faces the winner of the clash between Felix Lebrun, from France, and Dimitrij Ovtcharov, from Germany. The German was Hugo’s executioner at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The youngest of the brothers Lebrun has been competing with Hugo for the status of being one of the top four seeds at the Paris Olympic Games.
