Miami (USA) – First semifinalist of the Masters 1000 in Miami, Italian Jannik Sinner ended Czech Tomas Machac’s party at the tournament with a firm victory in straight sets last Wednesday. Looking for another final in Florida, where he was runner-up in 2021 and 2023, he will face Russian Daniil Medvedev, who is defending the title he won last season.

The two have already faced each other 10 times, Medvedev won the first six, the last of them in the Miami final last year, and then lost the last four. “He reached the final in Indian Wells, plus he has good confidence and is playing very well, especially here in this tournament. Last year he was champion”, commented Sinner.

“It will potentially be a very tactical game, I have to be ready if it starts in a similar way to Australia. I have to be ready and try to understand this first. So maybe he will change some things. So let’s see, it will be an interesting test for me”, said the Italian, who beat Medvedev in the final of this year’s Australian Open after losing the first two sets.

Regarding the victory in the quarterfinals against Machac, he said that he needed time to better understand his opponent. “I didn’t know exactly what to expect. I certainly tried to study my opponent a little, but playing against them is obviously a little different. I tried to see what I could do better tactically to beat him”, analyzed Sinner.

“I started well with a break but then he broke me straight away and after that it was really challenging. But when I won the first set, I felt a little more free to hit the ball and I think that made the difference today”, added the world number 3.

Asked about the Czech’s qualities, he highlighted his movement and play at the net. “Physically he is very well, he moves very quickly and has incredible timing with the ball. He can produce really quick shots and has really good volleys, so when he gets to the net he does everything really well,” noted Sinner.
