The draw for the 2nd phase of the handball championship will take place this Thursday

The champion. Those qualified for European competitions. The division relegations. Today the path for all decisions at the top level of handball will be revealed. The draw for the second phase is scheduled for 3:30 pm, at the headquarters of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, and will be broadcast live on THE BALL TV.

After an impeccable first phase, Sporting faces the competition with clear expectations of regaining a title that has eluded Alvalade since 2018. Since then, FC Porto has won the following four titles – the 2019-2020 season championship did not end due to the coronavirus pandemic. Covid-19.

The team coached by Ricardo Costa won the 22 games played in the regular phase and takes four points ahead of Benfica into the 2nd phase and, at least, four points over FC Porto, who still have a game to spare, against to the Maritime.

This means that to steal the title from the Lions, Eagles or Dragons they need to win the six rounds that the 2nd phase will have, still hoping that Sporting stumbles in at least one more game. The last of the qualifying positions for Europe will be contested by group B, which includes Águas Santas, Marítimo, Belenenses and Póvoa AC. The fight for permanence will be discussed between V. Guimarães, FC Gaia, Avanca and V. Setúbal, with two of these teams going down to the Division of Honor.

The teams take half of the points scored in the regular stage of the championship to the 2nd phase and face opponents from the same group in two rounds. The 2nd phase starts on April 13th.
