Lyon and Benfica faced each other again, this Wednesday, in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Women’s UEFA Champions League. This time, the confrontation took place in France, and the home team beat the Portuguese team 4-1 (6-2 on aggregate). Brazilian defender Laís Araújo played for Benfica but did not avoid elimination. In addition, the match was broadcast live on TNT and DAZN.

In the first game, Lyon won the clash against Benfica, away from home, by 2-1. In this way, the French team was able to decide the classification for the semi-finals at the Stade de Gerland with the support of the fans and with the advantage of a goal.

It didn’t work for Benfica!

Lyon started the match imposing a stronger pace, and managed to control the beginning of the match. The first good opportunity came at the feet of historic striker Le Sommer. She received a good pass inside the area and finished in the corner but stopped a good save from the goalkeeper.

End of first half caught fire! In the 43rd minute, Le Sommer took advantage of Laís Araújo’s mistake, won the challenge with the Portuguese goalkeeper and passed it to Delphine Cascarino, who completed the cover to open the score. However, shortly afterwards, Benfica tied the match with a goal from Marie-Yasmine Alidou, taking advantage of a great cross from the right wing.

The second stage, however, confirmed the dominance of the French. In the 51st minute, Delphine Cascarino masterfully handled the ball and kicked a bomb from outside the area to score her second goal of the match. Finally, Kadidiatou Diani (2x), in stoppage time, hammered the final nail in the coffin to win the match 4-1.
