The friendly between Latvia and Liechtenstein had the quickest (and most ridiculous) own goal in history. Latvian defender Marcis Oss shot against his own goal and scored for the opposing team just 14 seconds into the game.

The 32-year-old athlete received the ball inside his team’s area. Under pressure from Liechtenstein’s attackers, he passed the ball back to his team’s goalkeeper, Pavels Steinbors, but didn’t see that his teammate was far from the goal.

Luckily for Oss, his colleague Raimond Krollis tied the game ten minutes later.

The match ended 1-1. In the networks, despite the draw, the comments focused on the bizarre own goal scored by Marcis Oss.

“I would run to the locker room after that…” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter. “If I were the coach, I would take him off the field immediately”, thought another.

“What did this guy think he was doing?” asked a third. “I thought it was a great goal!”, exclaimed someone else.

Latvia will not participate in Euro 2024, scheduled to start in June, in Germany.

The team finished last in its group in qualifying for the tournament, with just one win in eight matches.

The various friendlies between international teams held in recent days were marked by other quick goals, but not goals against them. Florian Wirtz scored the first goal in Germany’s 2-0 victory over France just six seconds into the game. It was the fastest goal in the history of the German national team.

Christoph Baumgartner scored the fastest goal in Austria’s history, in just seven seconds, in the victory over Slovakia, also 2-0.
