Champion of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, California, Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, number two in the world, qualified for the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Madrid, Spain, on Tuesday night.

Alcaraz, 2022 champion in the event, beat the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, seeded 23rd, by 2 sets to 0 with a double 6/3 after 1h26min in a match held on the center court of the Hard Rock Stadium.
The Spaniard was broken just once, in the middle of the second set, but he broke soon after to close the game where he broke his rival on four occasions. It was his fourth victory in five games against the Italian. This is his ninth consecutive victory, six in the title in California and three more so far in the Florida event. He takes another step in the quest for the Sunshine Double title, that is, winning both American Masters 1000 in the month with 96-player brackets. Last year he won in Indian Wells and was a semi-finalist in Miami.
Carlitos will now seek a place in the semifinals on Thursday against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, 12th, or Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, 9th and champion of the tournament in 2021.
