The last Brazilian representative among women in the doubles bracket of the WTA 1000 in Miami, Ingrid Martins, was on the court this Monday (25). In a match valid for the round of 16 of the tournament, Ingrid Martins and her partner, Anna Blinkova, from Russia, faced the number 1 and 2 in the women’s doubles world ranking, Su-Wei Hsieh, from China Taipei, and Elise Mertens, from Belgium. Unfortunately, the Brazilian pair lost by 2 sets to 0, and are out of WTA Miami.

Thanks, Ingrid!

Brazilian Ingrid Martins, currently number 53 in the world in the tennis rankings, got a last-minute spot in the doubles draw of the Masters 1000 in Miami, in the United States. On Sunday (24), she took advantage of the opportunity alongside Russian Anna Blinkova, and managed to advance to the quarterfinals. However, in this Monday’s match, the Brazilian faced the tournament’s favorite pair, and lost by 2 sets to 0, with scores of 5/7 and 5/7.

For those who thought the confrontation between the duo Su-Wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens would be easy, they actually ended up seeing a great fight on the court. In both the first and second sets, the Brazilian pair managed to compete strongly, however, in both final games they favored their opponents. Furthermore, we highlight the good use of second serves by the winning pair, who achieved 65% success, compared to just 38% for Ingrid Martins and Anna Blinkova.

Brazil out of competition

In their WTA 1000 debuts in Miami, two other Brazilians were defeated. On Saturday (23), Luisa Stefani and Demi Schuurs, from the Netherlands, lost a tight match by 2 sets to 1, facing Monica Niculescu (Romania) and Oksana Kalashnikova (Georgia). The partials of the match were: 6/2; 2/6 and 6/10.

Meanwhile, Bia Haddad and Townsend, from the United States, were surpassed yesterday (24), by the Americans Muhammad and Alycia Parks. The match was also very competitive, with a score of 2 sets to 1 and partial scores of 2/6; 4/6; 11/13, in favor of the Americans. Previously, Bia Haddad, current number 13 in the world, also fell in the women’s singles competition. Defeat to British Katie Boulter, by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 6/2 and 6/3.
