‘Mourning is an unbearable pain’, laments girlfriend of staff killed after attempted robbery in Flamengo | Rio de Janeiro

It defended me from the bad things, but left me feeling empty.” These are the words of Biomedicine student, Victória Mendes, girlfriend of personal trainer Luis Felipe Alves do Nascimento, aged 27, who died after being shot after he tried to defend his partner in an attempted robbery in Praia do Flamengo, in the South Zone, this Sunday (5).

The student was returning with the victim from a luau when they were approached by criminals on a motorcycle, around 6am. The personnel reacted after one of the criminals pointed the gun at his companion. As a result, the suspect then shot him. Luis Felipe was rescued and taken to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in Leblon, still in the South Zone, but he did not survive his injuries.

On the afternoon of this Monday (6), Victória posted a series of photos on her social network with moments from the five years of relationship she had with the personal. Amidst images of smiles and kisses, a rant text was written by the young woman, remembering all the struggle her partner had to survive.

Confusion over time of death

Family and friends were at the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) Afrânio Peixoto, in the center of Rio, on Monday morning (6), to release the body of the personnel. According to the family, there was a mismatch in information regarding the time of Luis’ death, which would have occurred on Sunday night (5) with the victim’s mother, Antônio Edvânia, still in the hospital.

According to Dennis Luiz, a friend of the personal, the death occurred during the night, but the family was only notified on Monday morning after the body was sent to the IML. The family even launched a campaign asking for blood donations for the victim, without knowing that he was already dead.

“I went to Miguel Couto in the morning to do an interview to ask for a blood donation for him. There, I was informed that he was in the ICU, after that I went to work. Later, when I returned to the hospital I was informed that he had died yesterday at 10pm and I didn’t really understand that, because his mother was in the hospital at that time”, he said.

Asked about the time of death, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) regretted what happened and informed that it was available to the family for clarification. According to the agency, Luis arrived at Miguel Couto in a very serious condition and was promptly attended to, being immediately taken to the surgical center.

“Due to the severity of the injuries, the patient did not resist and the body was transferred to the IML, after the removal guide was issued by the police authority”, explained the secretariat in a note.

Luis will be buried at 3pm this Tuesday (7) at the São Francisco de Paula Cemetery, in Catumbi, central region of Rio. The man was an only child, graduated in Physical Education, which was one of his big dreams, and in love by sports.
