WIf the app is not sold within the deadline, the US government may ban the app from Android and IOS stores. Anyone who has TikTok will no longer be able to update it or fix problems. Those who have never installed it should not find it.

TikTok criticizes decision

ByteDance argues that the ban would further strengthen the bigtechs that dominate the application market. Media like Instagram and Facebook, for example, would gain even more market share to explore, according to the Chinese company.

Shou Zi Chew, president of the platform, spoke after the sanction. Chew used TikTok itself to say that “they’re not going anywhere”, in reference to the possibility of banning the app from operating in the USA. “We are confident and will continue to fight for your rights in the courts.”

TikTok has more than 1 billion active users worldwide. In the USA alone, 170 million people have an account on the app. ByteDance can only sell the app with authorization from Beijing.

While we argue our case in court, you can still enjoy TikTok like you always have. In fact, if you have a story about how TikTok impacts your life, we’d love for you to share it to show exactly what we’re struggling with.
Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok
