Why did Valdemar order PL to take proceedings against Sergio Moro to the TSE?

The national president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, would have ordered the party to take the case against senator Sergio Moro to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) because of the opinion of lawyer Marcelo Bessa. The former magistrate is fighting against the revocation of his mandate in court.

According to the newspaper The globe, Valdemar was asked by ex-president Jair Bolsonaro’s interlocutors to give up the action. The party president is one of the authors of the case against Moro. He claimed that he would follow the guidance of his lawyer, Marcelo Bessa.

The jurist argues that the party would have to resort to decision of the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) that rejected Moro’s impeachment, on April 9. Bessa has not acted directly on the senator’s cause so far, but her opinion would have been decisive for Valdemar to file an appeal.

The lawyer is responsible for defending Valdemar in proceedings before the Electoral Court and the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The president of the PL is responsible for inquiries in the Court, such as the one investigating an alleged attempted coup d’état involving Bolsonaro.

According to The globeBolsonaro’s assistants believe that Valdemar decided to continue with the process to make a gesture to the STF.
