Android’s notification bar icons haven’t been revamped since Android 5 Lollipop, although they changed a bit in Android 10. This should change with Android 15, as analyst Mishaal Rahman found new icons in Android 15 Developer Preview 2 ( DP2).

The icons shown today are not yet enabled in Android 15 DP2, but Rahman managed to find and activate them using hidden system resources.

The new look features gray icons that are dynamically filled with white depending on the status of the indicated function, such as WiFi, for example. The highlight is the new battery icon, which is almost the same as the one used on iOS.

This new layout allows the battery percentage to be displayed within the icon instead of a number next to it, saving space in the notification and status bar. It will also be possible to disable the number inside the icon in the settings.

Rahman also says that Google is working to add vibration feedback when tapping and holding a button in quick settings above the notifications bar, in Android 15’s brightness adjustment bar and even in the volume panel, which could also get a new visual.

Obviously, as this is a preview for developers, Google can change any feature mentioned today, after all, they have not yet been publicly released and many new features should appear until the debut of stable Android 15, which could take place in September or October 2024.
