Pedro Laborne Tavares Street, in the Buritis neighborhood, West Region of Belo Horizonte, was closed this Wednesday (3/4), due to the damage caused by yesterday afternoon’s rain. The street was covered in mud and tiles ripped off by the force of the flood.

The place was again hit by rain. In January 2020, the flood left the asphalt full of mud and holes and damaged the synthetic grass structure of a football field on the street. At the time, the start of classes at a school in the region were postponed due to the damage.

This Tuesday, the Buritis, São Pedro and Santo Antônio neighborhoods had several flooding points. According to the capital’s Civil Defense, at 5:30 pm, the Central-South Region recorded extremely heavy rain, while in the East it was raining heavily. The body also issued a warning about the risk of overflowing the Córrego do Leitão.

In just two hours, the Center-South region recorded more than 90% of the volume of rain expected for the entire month of April. Another region that presented a large volume of rain was Barreiro, with 53.6 mm. The Eastern Region recorded 33.2 mm. The climatological average for April is 82.3 mm.
