A locomotive fell into a crater in the early hours of this Thursday (28), in the Community of Rodrigues, rural area of Formiga. Two train drivers were injured and taken to hospital.
According to the Fire Department, the locomotive derailed due to erosion of the soil that supported part of the tracks. Then, the cars and the cabin where the drivers were sitting fell into the crater.
You two had minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). According to VLI, controller of the railway line, they are doing well.
According to firefighters, there was a large volume of diesel oil leakbut no fire risks were found. VLI stated that the fuel has now been contained.
The Environmental Military Police was called to assess environmental risks and carry out the necessary procedures.
VLI reported that a technical team from the company has already been directed to the location, investigating the causes of the incident and working to mitigate any impacts.
