Internacional is eliminated again from the Campeonato Gaúcho. After falling on penalties in the semifinals, against Juventude, Colorado reached the longest gap without lifting trophies in the dispute ever.

Until this Monday (25), Inter suffered a seven-year fast without state trophies – equal to the negative sequence between 1962 and 1968. The new setback, therefore, represents eight years without Gauchão titles, a negative record in the club history.

Internacional’s difficult record also extends to participation in finals. During the current fasting period, the club has reached the finals in only three of the last eight years – 2017, 2019 and 2021.

It’s been three years without even being among the two contenders for the title. The last time the club was not champion, or at least second, for a longer period of time, happened between 1956 and 1960.

Throughout history, Colorado has experienced two major periods of “lean” at the state level. Still in the early days of Gaúcho, Inter was not champion or runner-up from 1919 to 1922, and also in the years 1925 and 1926. The period ended up being six years, as the state championship was not played in 1923 and 1924 due to the war between chimangos and maragatos, known as the Revolution of 1923.

The team repeated the dose, this time without interruptions, between 1928 and 1933, when they also finished six editions from third place onwards in the classification table.
