An ocelot was found sleeping peacefully in a child’s bed, on Monday night (18), in Nioaque (MS) – 180 km from Campo Grande. The wild animal was rescued by the Environmental Military Police (PMA), after the owner of the house found the animal that was mistaken for a “jaguar cub”.

The 53-year-old resident reported that he left the child’s bedroom window open and when he got home, he found the animal on the bed in the room. Frightened, the man closed the room and called the PMA.

At the residence, the team realized that, in fact, the jaguar was a female and adult ocelot, of the species Felis Pardalis or Leopardus pardalis. Due to the circumstances of being a feline indoors, which could injure someone or be injured, the team chose to place the containment cage at the door to attract the animal.

Ocelot was released in its natural habitat in MS

As soon as the ocelot entered, the military closed the trap door. The ocelot had no injuries and was released in its natural habitat, far from the urban perimeter. (See video above).
