The 30-year-old woman said she was “completely sedated” and that was not the case with her other surgeries.
“It was strange because I was completely sedated, with general anesthesia. This is my third cesarean and this has never happened the other times.”
“Then I had a tubal ligation and I remember having pain in the back of my neck, I was sluggish and I didn’t think it was normal that the pain in the head didn’t go away. I can’t guarantee if something happened, I was unconscious, but I didn’t notice anything different in my body”, completed.
She was on Tuesday morning (12) at the Specialized Police Station for Assistance to Women in São João de Meriti (Deam), in Baixada Fluminense, where victims of the case are heard.

“What he did is violence against us and our family. We are not safe in the happiest moment of our lives. May God help him to be the only one (rapist), because he has already been arrested and Justice has done. But it is important that other women come to the police station to denounce this violence”.
The victim’s husband said that after the baby was born, he had to leave the delivery room, and unlike the birth of the other children, he did not stay with the woman until the very end.
“After I left, she was sedated. This is all revolting,” said her husband.
Two other people who said they were Giovanni’s patients also went to the police station. They had the babies on their laps.
In addition to the victims, Deam also heard from doctors and nurses.
Patient says he had ‘blackout’
One of the possible victims of the anesthesiologist, who did not want to be identified, said that she had a baby on the 3rd. The 37-year-old woman said that she had a complicated delivery, had high blood pressure, needed a blood transfusion, but was surprised by the sedation.
“He reassured me, said he was going to anesthetize me, that it was just for me to relax. I blacked out and only woke up when he was already cleaning his hands or taking off his gloves. I don’t know, everything was still blurry.”
“It’s a very delicate situation. Nobody goes into surgery worried that something is going to happen, that they’re going to be abused. What worried me, and what I told my mother and my partner, was the sedation, the blackout. When I saw the case on TV it was a shock. We wonder, did it happen? Did he make it? It’s very painful. We’re not going out at night, it’s very delicate,” he said.

The Health Foundation’s lawyer, Bruno Rocha, said that at least five nurses and technicians who filmed the anesthesiologist and two more doctors from the Women’s Hospital Heloneida Studart gave testimony this Tuesday. He said that everyone was surprised by the doctor’s attitude.
“Everyone was surprised, they couldn’t believe what was happening and decided to film it. They said it happened after the birth”, said the lawyer.
Representatives of the OAB Mulher de São João de Meriti, Talita Teixeira and Diana Jacob were also at Deam. They went to find out about the case and make the institution available to victims who do not have a lawyer. They will contact the Public Defender’s Office to provide legal support to anyone who needs it.
Who is the anesthesiologist who raped a patient during childbirth?
The doctor’s custody hearing was confirmed for 1 pm this Tuesday. In the session, the Court decides the doctor is kept in prison — the act can be converted into preventive detention.
In early Monday afternoon, Giovanni was transferred to the Benfica prison, in the North Zone.

In a video, Giovanni looked surprised when he received a voice of arrest from delegate Bárbara Lomba and, mainly, when he learned that he had been recorded abusing the patient.
The police are now trying to find other possible victims of the anesthesiologist.

The Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro (cremerj) opened this Monday (11) a process to expel Giovanni.

The Health Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the Secretary of State for Health, to which the Hospital da Mulher de Vilar dos Teles, in São João, is subordinated, repudiated the doctor’s conduct.
“We inform you that an internal investigation will be opened to take administrative measures, in addition to notification to Cremerj. The team at the Hospital da Mulher Heloneida Studart is providing full support to the victim and her family”, they said.
“This behavior, in addition to deserving our repudiation, constitutes a crime, which must be punished in accordance with the legislation in force”, continues the note.
The hospital’s management reported that it opened an internal investigation and notified Cremerj.
The anesthesiologist’s defense said that he is awaiting access to the full testimonies to express himself (see full note below).

The employees had been suspicious of the anesthesiologist’s behavior and found it strange, for example, the amount of sedative applied to pregnant women.
The nurses and technicians responsible for the act said that, on Sunday (10), the doctor had already participated in two other surgeries in rooms where the hidden recording was unfeasible.
In the third operation of the day, they managed, at the last minute, to change the room, hide the phone and confirm the act.
In the video of the act, the patient is lying on the stretcher, unconscious. On the left side of the sheet, the hospital’s surgical team begins the cesarean section.
Meanwhile, on the right side of the sheet, less than a meter away from his colleagues, Giovanni unzips his pants, pulls the penis out and inserts it into the pregnant woman’s mouth.
The violence lasts 10 minutes. While abusing the pregnant woman, the anesthesiologist tries to move little so that no one in the room notices. When he’s done, he takes a tissue and wipes the victim to hide the traces of the crime.
