Free stop! Latam adds 5 more cities for stopover in Brazil

-

Latam has expanded its stopover program in Brazil, now including Belém, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus and Recife as new destinations for extended connections of 1 to 3 days. The service, which was already available for stops in São Paulo and Brasília, allows travelers to enjoy an intermediate destination without additional costs on their air tickets.

For those unfamiliar with the term, the stopover allows passengers to make a voluntary stop — more than 24 hours on international flights or 4 hours on domestic flights — before reaching their final destination. This option is ideal for exploring an additional city during your trip without needing to purchase additional tickets. In other words, a trip to two destinations paying for just one.

For example, a passenger traveling from Curitiba to Fortaleza with a connection in São Paulo can choose to spend a few nights in the capital of São Paulo at no extra cost on top of the original fare.

Rules and how to request stopover in Latam

To request a stopover with Latam, interested parties must contact the company via WhatsApp before purchasing tickets (click here to access).

The service can be requested for both the outbound and return journey and is only valid on flights operated by Latam, at no additional cost. Connections must last between 1 and 3 days and the passenger must leave the airport. If you have hold baggage, it must be removed and checked back onto the next flight.

The stopover program is only available for tickets purchased with cash and is not applicable to issues made with Latam Pass points.

Oh, important: Latam’s stopover is only valid for domestic trips. For international trips, stopping is only possible in São Paulo.

GOL offers the stopover service in São Paulo and Brasília and Azul no longer has this option.

Stopover on international flights

Stopover is a more frequent practice in international travel, offered by several airlines operating in Brazil.

It is possible to make a stopover with TAP in Lisbon or Porto, with Air France in Paris, with KLM in Amsterdam, with American Airlines in Miami or New York, with Iberia in Madrid, or with Qatar in Doha, among many other possibilities.

Each company has its own rules and forms of issuance. For more information on how to take advantage, check out our post “Stopover – how to visit two destinations at once with the same plane tickets!“.
