From Katy Perry to Sam Smith or Carolina Deslandes: artists sign an open letter that warns of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence – Music

The Artists Rights Alliance, supported by more than 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Sam Smith, Jon Bon Jovi Katy Perry or Camila Cabello, launched this Tuesday, April 2, an open letter that warns of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence in the music industry.

In the statement cited by The Hollywood Reporter, the artists ask that the use of AI be stopped in cases where it could “infringe and devalue the rights of human artists”.

The Artists Rights Alliance warns that digital tools “produce and train, without permission, ‘imitators'” of sounds or voices.

“We believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to advance human creativity and in a way that enables the development and growth of new and exciting experiences for music fans around the world. Unfortunately, some platforms and companies that develop it are using AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, composers, musicians and rights holders,” states the artists’ open letter.

António Zambujo, Carolina Deslandes, Pedro Abrunhosa, Rui Massena or Sérgio Godinho are some of the Portuguese artists who signed the letter, as well as Calema or T-Rex.
