David Corenswet will play Clark Kent in the DC Cinematic Universe.

David Corenswet’s era as the DCU’s new Superman has officially begun. Recently, James Gunn shared on his social networks an image of the star wearing the blue cloak of hope, taking the Clark Kent epic once again into the spotlight.

With a great sacrifice to take on the role of the Kryptonian, Corenswet impressed everyone behind the scenes, mainly with his dedication to his work. So far, the star has gained almost 20 kg to stay true to his character, undergoing arduous training, as revealed by Paolo Mascitti, his trainer.

“This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision for the entire project“, began Mascitti in a recent interview with GQ. “David was already working out extensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very skinny guy. He’s 1.93m tall, and we wanted to make him stockier. He’s probably gone from 200 pounds to 225 pounds, but some of that mass will be lost as he continues to shape his body.”he added.

“Don’t believe in anything”: James Gunn is irritated by a flurry of theories about the new Superman film

The staff also adds:

“He’s very busy right now, so we only do three or four sessions a week, but he still trains two hours a day (…) We focus on exercises like presses, bench presses, push-ups, rows – all the main ones. We changed it up a little after a while, but we stayed focused on progressive overload to stimulate muscle growth, tracking reps and weight and trying to make progress each week.”

“He consumed about 6000 calories a day and his diet was strict, but not as strict as I would have liked.”jokes Mascitti. “Half of his training had to be done via FaceTime and half in person since he wasn’t in Los Angeles the whole time. We talked remotely and I asked about his diet and he was eating cereal! He’d say, ‘What’s wrong with cereal?’ That’s why he’s the perfect Superman. He has a realistic expectation of himself and the role.”

Directed and scripted by Gunn, the new Superman film is scheduled for release in July 2025, serving as the kickoff to the new DC Cinematic Universe. In the cast, famous Hollywood names are confirmed, such as Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Nicholas Hoult, Anthony Carrigan and more.
