While Sony does not define the release date of the new Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse, fans can miss Miles Morales with a new short released by the studio. The seven-minute special was produced even before the release of Through the Spider-Versebut it was only released to the public now, almost a year later.

baptized by The Spider Within: A Spider-verse Story (The Spider Within: A Story from the Spider-Versein a loose translation), the short film is entirely focused on Miles and shows what the young man was doing between the first and second films, showing in a few scenes the weight of the responsibility of being Spider-Man.

Directed by Jarelle Dampier, an artist who worked on animations such as What If…? young Justice It is Invinciblethe short shows Miles arriving home after a hard day as the new Spider-Man, only to have to face his anxiety and fears, which take shape as a sleep paralysis monster.

Despite its short duration, ending exactly when things get interesting, the short addresses in a very convincing way the weight of responsibility of a young man who needs to balance his school life, family life and, now, as the great hero of New York.

The use of the figure of the sleep paralysis monster, threatening Miles and then pressing on his chest, is a clear allusion to the anxiety suffered by the teenager, who tries to somehow deal alone with the whole truckload of problems that fell on his head in one small space of time. Unfortunately, this was not addressed in the film, which could have given even more depth to the character and his sense of heroism.

The short film had its premiere during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, on June 12, 2023, a few days after the premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Something interesting is that the production hit the internet in the same week as the third feature in the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verseshould debut.

The animation, which should conclude the saga of Miles Morales and the Spider-Men army against the villain Mancha, had a release date scheduled for March 28, 2024, but was postponed and no longer has a specific date to hit theaters. .

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales continues his life as Spider-Man. He ends up getting involved with the villain Mancha and is sucked into a multidimensional plot in which he meets a legion of Spider-Men who fight to keep the multiverse intact.

United again with his friends Peter B. Parker and Gwen Stacy, Miles needs to learn once and for all what it means to be a hero and the price it can take on his life.
