Protagonist of The Chosen, actor Jonathan Roumie revealed to DitoCinema what his favorite biblical productions are.

The Chosen – The Chosen is showing in Brazilian cinemas, with the first two episodes of the 4th season. We interviewed actor Jonathan Roumie, who commented on his preparation to play the protagonist Jesus in the series.

Jonathan Roumie revealed his favorite biblical productions, citing the film The Passion of the Christ (2004) and the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth (1977) as the ones that impacted him the most.

Oh, there are some. The ones that come to mind that I think impacted me as an artist and as a person of faith, I would say is The Passion of the Christ, by Mel Gibson, and then the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth, by Franco Zafarelli, which was made at the end from the 70s and had a tremendous impact on me as a child

The actor from The Chosen also confessed that the performances of Jim Caviezel in The Passion of the Christ and Robert Powell in Jesus of Nazareth are his favorites in the role of Jesus. “It depends, you can’t pick one because they all focus on different qualities. So it would be the Jesus of these two productions for different reasons. Robert Powell in this kind of mystical aspect of Jesus and Jim Caviezel as the suffering Christ, for sure.”explains Roumie.

The Chosen: Discover why the series about Jesus Christ is different from other religious productions

The Passion of the Christ follows the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth (James Caviezel). In the middle of the night, Jesus is betrayed by Judas (Luca Lionello) and is arrested by soldiers on the Mount of Olives, under the command of Hebrew religious, who were led by Caiaphas (Matti Sbraglia). After being severely beaten by his captors, Jesus is handed over to the Roman governor in Judea, Pontius Pilate (Hristo Shopov), to order the death penalty for Jesus. Pilate doesn’t understand what that man could have done that was so horrible for them to ask for the maximum sentence and it was the Hebrews who were asking for this. He loses control of the situation while a large part of the population calls for Jesus to be crucified. Trying to calm the people and the province, which he hates, Pilate gives in under the incriminating eyes of Claudia (Claudia Gerini), his wife, who considers Jesus a saint.

The Jesus of Nazareth miniseries, consisting of 4 episodes, follows the life of Jesus (Robert Powell) from his birth in Bethlehem to his crucifixion and resurrection, as written in the Bible. Conceived by the Virgin Mary and going through a painful childhood of pilgrimage, Jesus came to Earth with the mission of saving men, but he is betrayed and humiliated precisely by them. After being arrested, tortured and crucified, he is resurrected.
