Tom Cruise will take off again with Top Gun 3. The new aircraft film is in development and will not only see the star return to the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, but also the director Joseph Kosinski. We just don’t know when this will happen.
“Tone [Cruise] it’s incredible. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for the film, and Tom really liked it, so we’re going to build on that,” Jerry Bruckheimer, the franchise’s lead producer, told ScreenRant. He said, however, that he has no idea when the film might be made. The reason is simple: Cruise has a very busy schedule.
“You can never know when the movie will be made because Tom is so busy. He’s doing Mission: Impossible right now, and he already has a movie after that. Hopefully, we’ll have a script he likes, and we’ll be back on the air,” he concluded. Bruckheimer.
Miles Teller It is Glen Powell are also expected to return, as Rooster and Hangman, respectively, and one of the screenwriters for Top Gun: Maverick, Ehren Kruger, is responsible for the script. The studio also wants the film’s director, Joseph Kosinskiback in command.
Considering the success of Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion, the news of a new film isn’t exactly a shock. It comes, however, weeks after Cruise signed a contract with Warner Bros. Discovery which, although not exclusive, effectively means that the star is leaving Paramount for its rival.
It was expected that Mission: Impossible 8, scheduled for 2025, was a kind of farewell for Cruise at Paramount, with whom he has worked for decades and with whom he made his best-known films. The news of a third Top Gun, however, suggests that there are at least two more collaborations with the studio in the works.
Top: Gun: Maverick brings Cruise back to his iconic role as fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, and also features Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Ed Harris, Lewis Pullman and the exciting participation of Val Kilmerreturning as Iceman, Maverick’s rival from the original. The script had the collaboration of Christopher McQuarriedirector of the latest Mission Impossible, and the direction is by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion).

Released in theaters in May 2022, Top Gun: Maverick spent months in Brazilian cinemas and grossed more than US$ 1.49 billion at the global box office, the second biggest brand of the year (only behind, of course, Avatar: The Way of Water) . This is the biggest success of Tom Cruise’s life, and the only time the star has surpassed the $1 billion mark.
