Queen Elizabeth II congratulates Brazil on 200 years of Independence

THE queen elizabeth II sent this Wednesday, 7, a message from congratulations to Brazil for the bicentennial of Independence Dayand said she remembers her visit to the country in 1968. At the age of 96 and isolated due to problems related to mobility, the monarch visited the country only once, during the military dictatorship, when she was then 42 years old and reigned 16.

On the occasion, she was introduced to the player Pelé, two-time world champion and on the eve of winning his third championship in Mexico, in 1970. “Amidst the celebration of the important occasion of 200 years of independence, I would like to congratulate Your Excellency and send my congratulations to the people of the Federative Republic of Brazil, remembering with affection my visit to the country in 1968. May we continue to work with hope and determination to overcome global challenges together”, says a message sent by the queen.

On Independence Day, in Brasília, heads of state and representatives of Portuguese-speaking countries were invited by the Brazilian government. In addition to the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who is accompanying the civic-military parade alongside Jair Bolsonaro, the presidents of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves; and from Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló; the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), Zacarias Albano da Costa; and the Minister of the Presidency of Mozambique for Civil House Affairs, Constantino Alberto Bacela.
