AL announces increase in scientific and technological initiation scholarships

-

This Wednesday (8), the Alagoas State Research Support Foundation (Fapeal) published a new resolution to update the scholarship quotas granted so that undergraduate students can carry out scientific and technological initiation activities.

Through the Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships (Pibic) and the Institutional Program for Technological Initiation Scholarships (Pibit), people from Alagoas can take advantage of the opportunity to experience science and technology, under the guidance of qualified teachers and researchers, during their professional training, also including aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship.

361 scientific initiation scholarships were established for seven institutions: State University of Health Sciences (Uncisal), State University of Alagoas (Uneal), Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Federal Institute of Alagoas (Ifal), Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal), Cesmac and Unima/Afya.

According to Fapeal, each institution has internal criteria for selecting scholarship holders. In the case of the two private university centers, however, the resolution requires that scholarships be granted only to students from the public education network (schools linked to the State Department of Education and Ifal) or in conditions of social vulnerability – specifically, students whose family income does not exceed one and a half minimum wages.

“Uneal’s quota increased from 80 to 90 Pibic scholarships, and from 12 to 20 Pibit scholarships. Uncisal received an increase of 11 Pibic scholarships, increasing to 65, and now receives, for the first time, five Pibit scholarships. Ifal was also included in the Pibit quota, with 15 scholarships”, explained the foundation.

The full resolution, with the Pibic and Pibic quotas granted to all institutions, is available on the official website fapeal.br. Fapeal is a body linked to the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Secti).

For the CEO of Fapeal, professor Fábio Guedes, the requalification and increase in Pibic grants for these institutions is a demonstration of the maturation of the knowledge production system and the increase in qualified demand for the projects submitted.

“It is a commitment from the Paulo Dantas government to continue financing the training of our young people”, he said.
