The Cooperative of Anesthesiologists of RN – COOPANEST-RN, promotes this Friday (10), at 10am, the Save a Life course at the Professora Josefa Sampaio State School, in the neighborhood of Santos Reis, east of Natal. The objective is to teach students, aged 14 and over, cardiac and respiratory maneuvers that can make a difference in emergency situations, such as choking and cardiac arrest.
In 2023, around 2,000 people died from choking in Brazil. Recently, a 6-year-old boy died in Areia Branca, victim of a problem that could have been avoided with the use of correct maneuvers that help unblock and free up breathing.
The “Salve a Life” course is a partnership between SAERN – Society of Anesthesiology of Rio Grande do Norte and COOPANEST-RN and will feature the participation of experienced anesthetists ready to pass on knowledge.
The initiative also meets the prerequisites of Federal Law No. 13,722, known as the Lucas Law, which makes training in basic first aid skills for teachers and employees of public and private educational establishments in the country mandatory in Brazil.
In the first edition of the course within the school environment, Coopanest wants to offer training to 35 students aged 15 to 19.
“We intend to train multipliers with these young people. We want them to be able to save lives, whether at school, at home or in everyday life”, explains the president of COOPANEST-RN, doctor Vinicius Luz.
He also recalled that the chance of survival drops by 10% every minute that the victim does not receive help. On the other hand, immediately starting resuscitation maneuvers can double or even triple this chance.
