The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) increased credit approvals for companies in Amazonas in the first three months of 2024, benefiting 137 businesses. During the period, the institution approved R$67.5 million, a value 12% higher than the first quarter of 2023, when the institution had approved R$60 million.

The data was released this Thursday (05/09). The approvals reached important sectors for the local economy, such as R$28.2 for infrastructure, R$15.1 million for commerce and services, R$22.8 million for industry and R$1.4 million for agriculture. For micro, small and medium-sized companies, approvals represented R$33.8 million, a value 162% higher than in the same period in 2023.

“We resume the BNDES mission of promoting the country’s development, in all regions, contributing to the strengthening of business and the generation of jobs and income, priorities of President Lula’s government”, explains the bank’s president, Aloizio Mercadante. “The Bank’s excellent results in the first quarter prove that the Brazilian economy is growing and that expanding access to credit brings benefits for everyone”, he adds.

In addition to credit for companies in Amazonas, BNDES published the results throughout Brazil. In the North region, approvals grew 75% compared to the first quarter of 2023, totaling R$916.7 million. There were R$173.2 million for infrastructure, R$307.2 million for the commerce and services sector, R$373.4 million for agriculture and R$62.9 million for industry. Approvals for micro, small and medium-sized companies totaled R$678 million, an increase of 166% compared to 2023. In the first quarter of the year, BNDES supported 1,460 businesses in the region, 70.6% more than in the same period of 2023 .

In the first quarter of this year, across the country, credit approvals totaled R$24.7 billion, an increase of 91% compared to 2023, the best result in the last ten years, benefiting 42,737 businesses, a number higher than the 26,427 businesses supported in the same period last year.

Approvals grew in all fundamental sectors for the Brazilian economy, such as agriculture (50%), with a value of R$ 6.8 billion, commerce and services (65%), totaling R$ 4.4 billion, industry (189% ), with R$6.8 billion, and infrastructure (97%), with R$6.6 billion. In the first three months of the year, approvals for micro, small and medium-sized companies totaled R$13.2 billion, an increase of 52.2% compared to 2023.
