During the speech at the Legislative Assembly of the State of Sergipe (Alese) this Thursday (9), the leader of the Government, deputy Cristiano Cavalcante (União Brasil), highlighted Public Security data in Sergipe, based on data collected by Veja Magazine . The publication pointed to Sergipe as having the lowest homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the Northeast region.

Veja Magazine was based on a mapping made with data from the National Public Security Information System of the Ministry of Justice. On the occasion, the parliamentarian made a comparison with data from 2016. “During this period, in 2016, Sergipe had the highest homicide rate in the country, with fifty-seven deaths recorded for every hundred thousand inhabitants”, highlighted the parliamentarian.

Deputy Cristiano Cavalcante spoke about the reduction in the number of homicides, from 1306 intentional homicides in Sergipe in 2016 to 451 registered cases in 2023.

“The downward trend continues this year: in this first four months, we recorded the lowest numbers for the period since 2003. In other words, since the beginning of the count in the historical series, 21 years ago, we have reached the lowest rates of violent crimes in Sergipe”, highlighted the parliamentarian.

Investments

The parliamentarian attributed the reduction in cases of violent crimes to investments made for the Military Police of Sergipe, such as: purchase of weapons and ammunition, dialogue with the categories, in addition to the resumption of dangerousness and appreciation of professionals.

“Experts point out that this reduction is due to the integration of the Public Security forces, with the high investment in the area of intelligence, expertise and purchase of weapons and ammunition, the holding of public competitions for various careers in the Military, Civil and Scientific Police. Proof of this is in the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook itself, which points to our state as the one with the highest per capita investment in Public Security”, highlighted deputy Cristiano Cavalcante.

Reducing Financial Crimes

The parliamentarian also highlighted the reduction in financial crimes. “Sergipe has had no records of robberies against financial institutions for more than three years, as a result of the work carried out by the intelligence sector of the Public Security Secretariat,” he said.
