Next Thursday (9), the program Chat on Laje shows experiences of youth leadership in popular movements. The two guests had their first contact with militancy from the reality of their neighborhoods and the student movement, and continue to be politically engaged in the fight for rights and social justice.

This is the case of Eduarda Sinquini, 18 years old, president of the youth of the Workers’ Party (PT) of Santa Margarida, in Campo Grande, a neighborhood in the west of Rio. She is also part of the Esperançar group, created by young people during the pandemic , and where the Tudo Que Transforma Institute emerged.

In the episode, she says that the movement seeks to understand the neighborhood’s challenges and how organized youth can help in the search for solutions. One of the actions is school support for children, in addition to external activities such as the Little Africa circuit. “We also did a circuit in our own territory, with the old residents explaining to the children the memory and ancestry of our neighborhood”, said Duda.

Self-organization

Another guest is the historian Maíra Marinho, a member of the Popular Youth Uprising and the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST). She highlighted the importance of understanding and organizing young people in their diversity, whether in the favelas, in the countryside or at the university.

“When we talk about youth, it is actually about youth, in the plural, because it is not a single category. Levante was born with the objective of organizing youth in favor of a country project that is more fair and that has a leading role of youth in the development of public policies and also in self-organization”, stated Maíra.

The episode about youth and social movements was recorded at Casa Brota, a space located in Complexo do Alemão, north of Rio, and will air at 6pm this Thursday (9) on the program’s YouTube channel.

“Youth is creativity, we come against this staid, heavy policy, which appears boring to have the youth removed. We are a group of young people, many friends and we share the same dream which is social transformation. Our territory has power , in art, culture, education”, concludes Duda about his territory.
