Commerce has high expectations for Mother’s Day

With this date, the clothing and footwear segment emerges as the leader in sales, with an estimated turnover of R$ 133 million, followed closely by Pharmacies and perfumeries, with R$ 78 million, and household appliances and electronics items, with R$ 38 million in sales expected in the State alone

In the state of Pernambuco, Mother’s Day, considered the second most important commemorative date of the year, is expected to generate around R$329 million in retail sales. This represents an increase of 3.96% compared to the previous year and the highest sales volume since 2015, as revealed by the local analysis carried out by Fecomércio PE, based on special research by the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism ( CNC). The latter estimated that in 2024 the date should raise approximately R$13.23 billion throughout the national territory.

Gifts for Mother’s Day

According to the state, the preference for lower-cost gifts is a trend observed, as these products represent a more affordable option. The estimated sales volume in the clothing and footwear segment is the strongest with turnover of R$133 million, followed by Pharmacies and perfumeries (R$78 million) and household appliances and electronics items (R$38 million).

Still in the same research, an estimate of 25.9 thousand temporary jobs created across the country was also revealed, representing an increase of 8.8% compared to 2023. The average admission salary is expected to be around R$1,794, a increase of 7.1% compared to the previous year.

RETAIL PERNAMBUCANO

The Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of Pernambuco (Fecomércio-PE) carried out a survey with retail and services entrepreneurs in the Metropolitan Region of Recife and in the municipalities of Caruaru and Petrolina, identifying the key strategies for this date. Among them, 35% mentioned offering discounts, 31% highlighted the use of advertising to attract consumers, and 21% highlighted the importance of an online and social media presence to attract customers.

Businesspeople’s prospects for this year’s Mother’s Day are optimistic, with 70% of those surveyed believing in a better performance than the previous year, while only 6.6% are pessimistic regarding sales. These positive expectations are based on economic improvement, promising sales strategies and the good seasonal trend of consumers.

“The two surveys carried out by the Confederation that measure the prospects for commerce both from the point of view of retailers and consumers point to growth in the sector”, says Tadros. He recalls that the indicator that measures retailers’ confidence in relation to the current conditions of their companies increased by 6.4% compared to March and consumption intentions had their first increase in four months, with an increase of 0.4%. “The less tight budget of families should favor purchases in practically all segments”, highlights the president of the CNC, José Roberto Tadros.

Increased sales

For Bernardo Peixoto, president of Fecomércio-PE, the outlook is promising for commerce in Pernambuco this Mother’s Day. “The projected numbers point to a good movement in retail, which highlights the resilience and adaptation of our entrepreneurs. With an increase in sales compared to the previous year and significant diversification in featured retail segments, we are prepared to meet consumers’ needs. Furthermore, businesspeople’s strategies, such as new payment methods, use of social networks and promotions, strengthen our confidence in good performance”, says Peixoto.
