The largest grain producing hub in the Northeast is preparing to end the 2023/2024 soybean harvest. The western region of Bahia accounts for the harvest of 1.85 million hectares of the oilseed, out of a total of 1.98 million dedicated to the crop. The expectation of the Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia (Aiba) is that the activity will be completed in the first fortnight of May, allowing the publication of final productivity data, including regional averages for each productive micro-region.

The soybean harvest is being completed in most micro-regions. In the last week, the pace of the operation remained constant, with small interruptions due to rain showers, reports Aiba. The remaining areas are concentrated in the municipalities of Formosa do Rio Preto, Correntina and Jaborandi.

The forecast is that yield averages will remain at around 60 to 63 bags of soybeans per hectare, with a maintenance or increase bias. Recurrently in recent years, Bahia has broken productivity records, being considered the hub with the best soybean productivity in the world.

The corn harvest is in its initial stages in the same region. To date, around 23 thousand hectares have been harvested, just under 20% of the total. Just like the final soybean crops, the corn harvest is subject to climatic factors.

The 2023/2024 soybean harvest in Bahia should end with an increase of 6.5% in the planted area, reaching 1.98 million hectares. In the case of corn, the reserved area decreased by 38%, reaching 135 thousand hectares cultivated, according to the latest Aiba survey.
