Isolated in Nova Santa Rita due to the flooding of highways, the coordinator of the Rio Grande do Sul bench in Congress, deputy Marcon (PT), stated that the municipalities affected by the climate tragedy need medicine, doctors and oxygen tanks for hospitals and fuel for rescues, emergency displacements and generators.

“It’s going to be worse when the water goes down, we’re going to see things we can’t even imagine underwater,” the deputy told Radar. “(The situation in) Porto Alegre, Canoas, São Leopoldo, Eldorado, Guaíba is a tragedy. The water has already passed through Taquari and from there goes to Pelotas and Rio Grande”, he warned.

On Monday, Marcon participated remotely in a meeting of state and federal deputies from Rio Grande do Sul with ministers Renan Filho (Transport), Nísia Trindade (Health), Waldez Góes (Regional Development) and Paulo Pimenta (Social Communication).

“The cities are finished. The first place is to save lives. This continues for two or three days. Then, it’s time to think about how we are going to rebuild Rio Grande do Sul. Vale do Taquari, for the third time”, said the PT member.

Among the measures mapped out by the Rio Grande do Sul bench in Congress, Marcon stated that it is necessary to approve changes to the 2024 Budget Guidelines Law to allow the federal government to anticipate mandatory parliamentary amendments – for which, in normal times, there could not be prioritization of just one state .

The deputy said that, at the request of the Rio Grande do Sul bench, the Ministry of Health will release 650 million reais in amendments for Rio Grande do Sul. The Ministry of Agriculture, he added, should also adopt a similar measure to help rural producers in the state.
