Of the 27 federative units, 22 are on a downward trend in dengue cases, according to the epidemiological bulletin for week 18, released by the Ministry of Health this Tuesday (7). Only the state of Mato Grosso remains on the rise — and four are stable (Ceará, Maranhão, Pará and Tocantins).

The data presented represents an improvement compared to the previous week, which had 14 states with a drop in numbers. However, according to the Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance, Ethel Maciel, the moment is still an alert.

“In week 18 we already had a very important change in the states that are falling, but I wanted to draw attention because we are still continuing, even though we have gone through the phase of the highest number of cases, of a greater explosion, we still continue to have many cases confirmed. So it’s still a matter of concern,” she highlights.

The director of the Ministry’s strategic surveillance coordination department, Guilherme Werneck, says that most states have already passed the peak of dengue cases.

At the moment, their latest report [da Fiocruz] demonstrates that 24 of the 27 federation units would have already passed the peak, others would be at the peak and Mato Grosso is still growing. So, in general, for most units, we observed that they passed their peak. It is also important to always remember that it is difficult to analyze Brazil, because each federation unit and each location has a slightly different dynamic of this epidemic”, he comments.

Balance

In total, there are 4,500,594 probable cases in the country and 2,336 confirmed deaths — another 2,439 are still under investigation.

The disease’s fatality rate is 0.05%, but when it comes to serious cases, this number rises to 4.73%. According to the ministry, the highest number of serious cases and deaths continues to occur in the age group over 60 years old.

As for vaccination, 906,675 doses were administered to the target audience, around 34% of the quantity sent to the states and Federal District.
