Pernambuco recorded 1,312 cases of Intentional Violent Deaths (MVIs), in the last four months of 2024. This is what data released on Monday (6), by the Secretariat of Social Defense (SDS) indicates.
Comparing to the same period in 2023, when January, February, March and April totaled 1,223 violent deaths, 2024 saw an increase of 7.2%. There were 89 more homicides committed in the four months of 2024, compared to the same period last year. With the sum of the first four months of this year, Pernambuco has a daily average of 10.8 daily murders in 2024.
In the same monthly bulletin released on Monday (6), SDS pointed out that the interior of the State was first in the ranking of regions that recorded the most homicide cases in February. According to the ministry, 147 incidents were recorded last month. The Recife Metropolitan Region (RMR) was in second place in the ranking of MVI cases in March this year with a total of 117 cases. The capital of Pernambuco was in the last position of the regions that recorded the most occurrences of MVI last month.
