The Museu dos Povos Acreanos (MPA) will participate for the first time, from May 15th to 19th, in the National Museum Week, which is an annual event and is in its 22nd edition, being coordinated by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), to celebrate International Museum Day, May 18th.

The International Council of Museums (Icom) launches a theme each year, the 2024 theme being Museums, Education and Research. The activities carried out at the MPA during National Museum Week are in partnership with the Elias Mansour Culture Foundation (FEM) and the Federal University of Acre (Ufac).

According to the MPA coordinator, Ferleno Ferreira, one of the objectives of this year’s theme is to promote rapprochement between institutions and the community. “The program will be diverse and our objective is to increase the number of visitors”, he says.

The MPA curator, Paola Ribeiro, and the FEM producer, Laís Albuquerque, responsible for organizing the event, highlight the diverse program, with lectures, courses and round tables, as well as a documentary screening and theatrical play at the end.

“The MPA’s participation in National Museum Week is important because, in addition to publicizing the research carried out by the teachers present, it encourages partnership between the museum and institutions, and seeks to include the community in this environment, showing that education and museums they are accessible to everyone”, emphasizes Paola Ribeiro.
